Main Post: Like, what the fuck is [The Voyage] at [Holiday World]. What the actual fuck (mini-TR inside)
Top Comment: A long drive from Kentucky Kingdom—our first of many—brought us within spitting distance of Holiday World, and after a good night’s rest and an above-par hotel breakfast (spread the news: the Ferdinand Comfort Inn has biscuits and gravy), we were ready to tackle Holiday World. It was a complete and utter coincidence that we had planned today, of all days, at this park, and we expected (and were rewarded) with the sight of red lanyards and coaster shirts all day. (Hats off to the guy with the CONEY ISLAND CYCLONE ROW 11 shirt, the best one we saw today.) Despite the prevalence of thoosies we didn’t really notice an impact on crowd levels, as I assume they were resting up for ERT later, and lines for all the major rides were short to manageable all day. Several ended up being walk-ons. We arrived about an hour before park opening and were some of the first to be let into the park, and we beelined directly to The Voyage. "What the jesus fucking christ was that. Seriously. What the fuck. What the actual fuck” were my first words out of the break run and honestly, I still can’t find a proper way to describe what may potentially be my new number-one coaster. It is the most intense roller coaster I’ve ridden. From the impossibly-steep first drop, to the airtime hill immediately after, to the fast and furious jaunt through the woods, the drop in the dark, and the final few turns and tunnels into the brakes, there is no pause, no break, no precious few seconds for you to catch your breath before the PTC trains tumble you back into the morass of curves and airtime and demonstrations of gravity that is Voyage. Like, what the fuck. We rode four times and found the back to be better than the front, where the shuffling seemed a bit more pronounced. Good Gravy seemed frankly cartoonish after that, but the theming is positively adorable and the cars were some of the cutest I’ve seen. Layout-wise I think Kings Island’s Snoopy has it beat, but no denying this is a charming addition. Thunderbird was a walk-on, and the launch caught us by surprise—it was more forceful than either of us were expecting from a B&M LSM. The rest of the layout is cool, and unlike the other wing coasters we’ve been on (Wild Eagle and Gatekeeper), Thunderbird knows when to end and doesn’t drag out its welcome. The vest restraints were annoying here, more so than usual, but not enough to dampen the fun experience. Then it was back up to the front of the park to knock out the two stalwarts. I can see why The Raven was highlighted so much back in the day; the layout is wonderful and the sweeping turn over the water was one of our favorite moments of any coaster at this park. However, the way it was running today had us both deciding against a second lap; parts of the track desperately need a retrack, and the trains were not exactly graceful at navigating the course. We found The Legend to be a bit better in terms of roughness. We were also caught pleasantly surprised by the intensity of this one; the helix, especially, seemed to go on forever and pinned us against the side until we could barely stand our necks up straight. The first drop, which seems to curve left at the last second, also caught us off guard in the best way. An obligatory lap on The Howler rounded out this park for us, and we spent the rest of the time trying out different seats on The Voyage, which I’m slotting in at my new number-one spot ahead of Velocicoaster, Maverick, Steel Vengeance, Iron Gwazi, and Flying Dinosaur. Like, what the fuck is that ride. How was it built. And how did I manage to have the good fortune of existing in the same period as it. Six Flags St. Louis next.
The kindle voyage, the best kindle ever made
Main Post:
There’s the odd thread about this but they’re all old and comments locked. I’ve tried every kindle, including the oasis and in my opinion the voyage is the best of all. It’s so premium, what a display, perfect size to make it portable. I’ve jailbroken it so I have dark mode and disabled screen touch features too.
Anyone else feel the same way? It feels a bit like if apple made the iPhone 15 the year after the iPhone 6.. and then realised they’d done too much of an advanced jump in tech. I don’t think Amazon have massively improved on much since the voyage was released.
Top Comment: I would probably do terrible things to get my hands on one tbh
Should I get a kindle voyage?
Main Post:
Hi! So I currently have a kindle 4 I think, it’s like 13 years old and doesn’t have a light in it which means I barely use it because I want to read in the dark. I’ve been considering what kindle to get, or if I even want to get one at all because spending money makes me feel bad lol, and currently I am looking at this kindle voyage. From what I have read, it does have a light. Does anybody know how good the light is, how adjustable it is etc?
Also, Is it touch screen? I genuinely can’t tell even though I’ve tried to read online about it.
I am also planning to use it in the bath with one of those waterproof bag things. I would love a paper white for the waterproof features but I just can’t justify the price.
My budget is around £80. Should this be the kindle I go for? Or is there a better kindle that has a light in a similar price range.
Also if you have a kindle voyage I’d really appreciate a picture of the light settings it would be very helpful.
Top Comment: At around £80, wouldn't it more prudent to pick up an 11th generation Basic? It would be brand new and from 2022 as opposed to a used Voyage from a decade ago at half the price. Outside of the page turn buttons, the current Basic has all the bells and whistles the voyage had but a usb c port instead of micro b. The Basic without discount or a sale is £95, and a sale would bring it down.
Voyage-IMO the best they ever made

I have three kindles, over the years many more and the one that still makes my heart sing is the Voyage.
Despite its outdated charging system, discontinued software updates, and lack of waterproofing I keep coming back. The buttons, the clean design, and the crisp screen are all perfection.
Hard to believe this beauty is almost 10yrs old, released in 2014. And what a great “voyage” it’s been the last 10yrs.

I loved my Voyage so much! It failed ugly and I was forced to trade it in, but it was a tough adjustment to the Oasis. And now that's discontinued, too!
Tips for the voyage?
Main Post:
I'm receiving my Voyager this Thursday if everything goes well at customs and I'm trying to plan my switch from my Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000. Some questions beforehand:
- Debating whether to go cold turkey or practice at home with my laptop at first. Will probably do the latter, although putting in mileage will inevitably be the end game. What is your experience?
- I'm in doubt whether a desk mat is required for the halves to properly grip on my desk. Any thoughts?
- I might end up with buying arm rests and 3D printing a custom tenting bar later on, but haven't seen many (video) reviews of their quality of use. Those bars might warrant a mat anyways. The Grovemade stuff looks nice, but there's so many brands/materials and I'd hate to buy a non-durable solution for the long term. Also, I'm based in the Netherlands so alternative local/EU/UK brands would be awesome. Any suggestions?
- I have an upright ergo mouse, currently. Have you kept your regular mouse or does a large trackpad blend better with a split keyboard?
Use case info: mostly programming in VSCodium on Linux (Ubuntu). Not yet into vim 😅.
Top Comment: My biggest advice is before you even get the keyboard, go into Oryx and print out your current layers and look at other people's Layers for inspiration. One of the big complaints I read here is people aren't able to adjust to this keyboard. You're going to go from a full size keyboard to one with less keys and layers. You will want to figure out how to navigate the keyboard and how to map it for maximum effect. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has created some shortcut layers for your coding tools. And don't invest in all the trappings that I and others have gotten yet. Your needs may be different. I bought tripod heads with desk clamps and other stuff only to realize I didn't need any of it after the return period expired. Don't bother practicing. It'll feel weird when you first set it up because of the physical split and the ortho linear nature. You will end up retraining some muscles. Your ramp up time will vary. It took me a few weeks to get back up to an acceptable speed after the switch. For now, don't bother with a desk mat. The splits will generally stick well to a standard desk until you figure it spacing. I don't use one for the splits, but my trackball and dial are on a sticky pad to keep them from moving. For body support, I don't have mounted supports for my wrists/forearm/shoulder support. I adjusted my seating/posture to get the ergo positioning I need. I do use IMAK smart gloves to keep my hands in a neutral position. For tenting, I don't need much beyond the little stands. I use either a Logitech MX Ergo or a Kensington Orbit Fusion Pro, and Surface Dial for navigation. I've tried a trackpad and a vertical mouse, but they didn't make any noticeable impact.
Opinions on Voyage?

Mostly aged vocals. Just a Notion uses the vocal track from 78.
